XpressAmerica Windows Me Dial-up Configuration/Setup
- The first true step toward Advanced Multimedia and the Internet -

"What is Windows Me (Millennium)?"
[IMPORTANT OPERATING SYSTEM NOTICE: As of July 11th, Microsoft no longer supports Windows 98 or Millennium]
The Millennium project was the first real implementation of the enhanced multimedia and internet side of the Windows Platform which, in essence, was an upgraded version of Windows 98 bringing it to the "Next Step". Windows Me was the last Microsoft operating system to use the Windows 98 Kernel. More information about Windows Me can be found HERE.

Here we will discuss how to get your Windows XP to connect to XpressAmerica's Dial-up Service with a Generic Connection:

Step 1:

First, Navigate to the your "Dial-Up Networking" folder:
  • Click Start on your "Start Menu"
  • Click Settings
  • Click Dial-Up Networking
Step 2:

The Dial-Up Networking folder opens:
  • In Brief: this is where any Dial-up Connections exist
  • Double-Click Make New Connection
Step 3:

After the New Connection wizard opens:
  • Type in XpressAmerica for the "name" of the connection (this is not cAsE-sEnsAtiVe)
  • You may disregard the "Select a device:" field as your computer should automatically detect the correct modem
  • Click Next
Step 4:

The phone number the the computer you want to call (XpressAmerica):
  • Ignore the "Area Code:" field
  • In the "Telephone number:" field, type 15006990087 (no space or dashes are required)
  • Click Next
Step 5:

You have completed the wizard but there's still one more thing we need to do with the connection after you've clicked the finish button:
  • Click Finish
Step 6:

Your "Dial-Up Networking" folder should still be open (if not: Start, Settings, Dial-Up Networking):
  • Right Click the new XpressAmerica Connection 1 (one) time
  • A menu appears
  • Left Click Properties
Step 7:

The properties for your XpressAmerica Connection opens (Titled: XpressAmerica):
  • Un-check "Use area code and Dialing Properties" by clicking the box next to it if there is a checkmark in it (this will Grey-Out the Area Code and Country Code as shown in the illustration)
  • Click Ok
Step 8:

You should now be looking at your "Dial-Up Networking" folder again:
  • Double Left Click your new XpressAmerica Icon to open the "Connect To" window
Step 9:

In the "Connect To" window:
(PLEASE REMEMBER: You CAN NOT change your username and/or password unless you call us by phone)
  • User name: here you will type the username that you chose with XpressAmerica when you signed up. In our example, the username is johndoe@xpressamerica.net (all lowercase letters; johndoe is probably NOT your username)
  • Password: here you will type the password that you chose with XpressAmerica.
    (your password is CaSe-SeNsAtivE)
  • Most users prefer a check next to "Save Password"
  • XpressAmerica DOES NOT RECOMMEND Connecting Automatically. Please do not use it
  • Verify the correct phone number (15006990087). There are viruses and malware out there that can change the phone number. XpressAmerica is not responsible for you dialing out-of-state or national phone calls
  • Click Connect to connect to the internet
Step 10:

Once your username and password have "Authenticated" on our servers, you will see 2 little screens pop down by your clock in the bottom right hand corner of your "Start Menu". This means that you are connected to XpressAmerica. You can always check your connection speed by leaving the mouse over the 2 screens (or double left click it), after a brief moment, it will show you your Speed and the amount of Data transmitted. You can easily disconnect when you want by Right-Click and then Left-Clicking "Disconnect". We consider a good connection anything over 45.0 Kbps (or 45,000 Kbps).

You may now browse the web by double left clicking on Internet Explorer (the big blue E). At this time we must advise you that your setup with XpressAmerica is NOT complete until you have ran our setup program. Being connected to our services means you Fully Understand our Policies. You can download our setup program directly HERE. Should you need instructions for our setup program, click HERE. If you choose Not to download and run our setup program, here are the links to our Policies:

Our setup program sets up the actual connection to XpressAmerica AND sets up your E-mail with Outlook Express. It also places 2 shortcuts on your desktop... a direct link to XpressAmerica and a direct link to our Webmail (which can be accessed from any computer with a live internet connection).
