Spam
What is spam? Spam is Unsolicited "junk" e-mail sent to large numbers of people to promote products or services. Sexually explicit unsolicited e-mail is called "porn spam". Also refers to inappropriate promotional or commercial postings to discussion groups or bulletin boards. Lately spam has run rampid. Many companys offer spam protection, but there is no full proof way to stop all spam. Spam is almost like a virus. Some people have been known to get thousands a day. Below we will go over a few options to reduce it, and let you know what XpressAmerica does to help protect you.
XpressAmerica reduces your spam three ways. The first is we match a potential spammers ip address against a very large database of known spammers. If their IP address matches the databases, mail is filtered out and stopped from getting to you. This database is updated by the thousands daily. The spammers never keep the same IP address for long because they know we are tring to stop them.

The next is the amount of activity on our server. When spam mail is sent from a company to a XpressAmerica address, our mail server bandwidth shoots through the roof. We are alerted to this, and find the spammer sending these emails by the thousands, and block them.

The third is our spam server. The XpressAmerica Spam Firewall (known as the Barracuda) protects your email server with nine defense layers:

  • Denial of service and security protection
  • IP block list
  • Rate control
  • Virus check with archive decompression
  • XpressAmerica virus check
  • User-specified rules
  • Spam fingerprint check
  • Intention analysis
  • Bayesian analysis

While these steps are in place to help you minimize spam, many still get through to your email box. You can prevent a lot from coming through as well. Many customers cause triggers that cause us to get slammed with lots of junk/spam mail. You do it without knowing it because you may think what you are doing will stop the spam. Here is a list of what you can do to reduce spam.

  1. Never unsubscribe to email. The Company you unsubscribe from takes you off their list, but now that they know you unsubscribed it verifies its a good email address. They in turn sell your email to hundreds of other companies.
  2. When you order something on line use a junk email address. You can either set up a junk one here, or make one at hotmail, or yahoo. Then you know anything in the junk email box is junk. It also lets you know who the bad companies are. Then empty all messages in it once a week. Do a bulk delete.
  3. Tell your friends not to give out your email address.
  4. To block repeating email click on message, then block sender in your email program
  5. To start clean again since you have given it out so much you may want to make a new username and password here at XpressAmerica.

These steps should bring spam to almost a thing of the past. XpressAmerica uses a spam server to block millions of junk mail from getting to you.
